چکیده

Studies on the assessment of land degradation, overland flow, soil loss, and nutrient loss have emerged as paramount importance for food security rural livelihood in mountains. The present study dealt with similar issues Eastern Himalayas, which primary data were collected from field during 2017–18. Quantitative qualitative methods used to collect erosion information was assessed through experiments watershed Sikkim, Himalayas. first section methodology deals experimental analysis different use categories quantify loss. In second section, detailed analyses farmers’ perceptions indicators recorded surveys, i.e., key informant interviews (KEIs) focus group discussions (FDGs). results showed that highest flow barren (8.63%) followed by large cardamom-based agroforestry system (7.02%), mixed cropping (4.84%), lowest terrace cultivation (4.69%). Soil estimated be (7.73 Mg/ha/year (megagram/hectare/year)) (4.32 Mg/ha/year), (3.75 least (3.23 Mg/ha/year). Loss nitrogen (N) (4.49 kg/ha/year) phosphorous (P) (2.43 land, while potassium (K) (4.30 farming. N rate (3.34 cultivation, P (8.19 farming, (3.28 agroforestry. Approximately 33% farmers acknowledged light or no losses, 17% accepted moderate erosion. survey indicated only 15–19% reported high extreme fields. Farmers are practicing multiple measures control degradation; however, marginal still vulnerable need strong support government safeguard their land.

The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...

Predicting soil erosion for alternative land uses.

The APEX (Agricultural Policy-Environmental eXtender) model developed in the United States was calibrated for northwestern China's conditions. The model was then used to investigate soil erosion effects associated with alternative land uses at the ZFG (Zi-Fang-Gully) watershed in northwestern China. The results indicated that the APEX model could be calibrated reasonably well (+/-15% errors) to...

The development of land quality indicators for soil degradation by water erosion

The paper describes a proposed methodology for estimating water erosion risk for large areas. The estimates are based on a one-dimensional hydrological balance and a physically based sediment transport model. Estimates of risk associated with a given storm amount are integrated over the frequency distribution of daily rainfalls to provide a properly weighted estimate of the average annual risk....

Land, Soil and Vegetation Resources in India

The nation’s strength, be it social, economic or political depends mostly on the available resources and their proper utilisation. But what is a resource? In simpler terms, resource is the matter or substance which satisfies human wants at a given time and space. Before any element can be designated as resource three basic pre-conditions must be satisfied. They are the knowledge, technical skil...

Effect of Integrated Water-Nutrient Management Strategies on Soil Erosion Mediated Nutrient Loss and Crop Productivity in Cabo Verde Drylands

Soil erosion, runoff and related nutrient losses are a big risk for soil fertility in Cabo Verde drylands. In 2012, field trials were conducted in two agro-ecological zones to evaluate the effects of selected techniques of soil-water management combined with organic amendments (T1: compost/manure + soil surfactant; T2: compost/animal or green manure + pigeon-pea hedges + soil surfactant; T3: co...
